A clarity, exploring emotions of being undervalued, underestimated and feeling like you're starting ten steps behind
Released 7th March: This track was written in Sydney, Australia with producer James Guido (Georgia Lines, LAU, The Tierney Bros). After a string of showcases at SXSW Sydney 2023, ‘Ottoman’ was written amongst an intensive writing week. The song was born in a matter of hours as ASHY had been inspired by many experiences around this time.
“Ottoman is about some of the challenges I’ve had in both the music industry and in life in general,” shares ASHY. “I’ve often been underestimated. The main lyrics in the pre chorus directly speak to how I’ve felt being an Indian woman in the commercial industry – and that I have had to work 10 times harder to be recognized on the same level as some of my peers. This has also happened many times in my daily life. I frequently must prove that I belong and should be treated the same as others.”

After a massive couple of years and to only mention a few of her achievements; ASHY has managed to play SXSW Texas twice (2023, 2024), SXSW Sydney, become a Grammy/ Recording Academy Member and be an Official Shure Artist NZ Ambassador.
Her latest anticipated project will feature songs written with producers in Los Angeles, Nashville, Sydney & Auckland.

When speaking with Conor Lochrie for Rolling Stone Australia, ASHY shares: "This has felt like such a long time since I last released and I had to come back with something special like ‘Ottoman’. After a couple of years of travelling, performing and writing overseas I had come back with some of my favourite songs if ever written. This is the first of my forthcoming project, this is only the beginning"
