Los Angeles-based, alternative R&B artist Chris Moon has built a sound that pushes the limits of hip-hop, soul, and punk music - a combination of aesthetics threaded together via the producer/vocalist’s idiosyncratic vision. Moon also explores multi-medium storytelling by compounding his wonky sonic ideas with singular visual panache, developing an overall artistic brand rendered acutely for the Online Generation.

3 words to describe you:
Rule Breaker, Bird Watcher, Music Maker
Describe your sound:
Alternative R&B, inspired by retro 808 drum machines, funky neo soul grooves and cadences, alongside.
Describe the moment you knew that you wanted to pursue music:
I used to listen to the radio a lot as a kid, and I remember day dreaming while listening to songs on the radio, thinking of ways that I wanted the song's melodies to go. I ended up writing my own verses to radio songs in the car in my head, and from there I began writing my own song and producing my own tracks.
How does your heritage impact your art?
My heritage holds a presence in all of the works of art I create, whether it's my cultural upbringing that may or may not inform an opinion/reaction, visual references from film or music, or just the essence of me not seeing an artist that looks like me growing up, it's all in there in whatever I make.
What moment are you most proud of in your music journey so far?
My proudest moment is any time that I am able to successfully execute an idea in my head and bring a song or a video to life.
Your next music goal:
I would like to open for an artist and do more live shows, and also complete and release my next project this year.
If you could collaborate with anyone, who and why?
There are so many artists that I would love to collaborate, but the first one that comes to mind would be Fousheé. I think she is a criminally underappreciated artist, I appreciate her honouring the album format in today's fast food music consumption era. She puts so much thought and effort into her music and world building, while making sure to keep it authentic to herself and her experiences rather than chasing commercial success. She creates with a candid freedom that I feel not a lot of artists have the courage to do, and she's a hell of a songwriter.
