GET TO KNOW - completed January 2025
Describe your sound:
I’m known for my wonky but well-rounded music taste

What inspired you to become a DJ:
I started DJing as hobby to see if I would be good, and if it could be fun, and then it grew into a side hustle. My drive to support the Asian community is what inspired me to debut Mooncake, a two-hour weekly music program which celebrates sounds from Asia and artists of the Asian diaspora, on independent radio Triple R 102.7FM.

Walk us through your creative process/track selection when putting a set together:
Mooncake introduces me so many artists, local and international, and a broad spectrum of genres. This heavily influences the selections for my DJ sets. But at the actually my sets are just a mix of music that love listening to, and want to share with you.

How does your heritage impact your art?
I love meeting fellow Vietnamese-Australian creatives and musicians and connecting with them over our shared experiences as part of the Vietnamese diaspora. I will always support them through my platforms, as we continue to build our community.

What moment are you most proud of in your music journey so far?
In 2021, one year since its debut, Mooncake won the Community Broadcasting Association Award for Best Music Program, which recognises excellence in music programming, and is a highly competitive category. I’ve never won an award before and it sits on the top shelf of my bookshelf. Mooncake also celebrated 200 episodes last year.

Your next music goal:
I would love to play a kpop DJ set in Vietnam

Your 5 song mini-mix:
In this mini playlist, I’ve selected songs in R&B leaning pop by all Asian-Australian artists, including the two that I manage, Rainbow Chan and Yeo.

1. Mindy Meng Wang 王萌, Sui Zhen – Watch My Mum Dance
2. Rainbow Chan – Love Note 情書
3. Yeo – BELONG
4. Tiana Khasi – Good As It Gets
5. Jade Kenji – ON U
