Creating a community to connect musicians, DJs and presenters with Asian heritage to industry opportunities.
Family of East, created by Co-Founders Shana Gujral and Noé Solange is a dynamic new database and community platform built to redefine and expand the role of Asian identities in the Western music world. Launching on 7th October 2024, the database will feature a curated directory of musicians, DJs, producers, and presenters from the 48 countries of Asian heritage, connecting them with a wide range of opportunities from festivals, venues and beyond. Family of East is dedicated to creating a more inclusive music industry by ensuring that Asian creatives receive the visibility and opportunities they deserve.
Creatives are invited to submit their details through a submission form, which will be used to create a profile with their portfolio, social media and work. These profiles will be available to share with industry professionals to highlight their talent and generate new opportunities.
The initiative began as Shana G (presenter, DJ and producer) and Noé Solange (electronic musician, music producer, singer-songwriter) were establishing their own music careers. They found that Asian representation was few and far between on lineups and decided to address this gap.
“We initially connected over our Asian heritage and realised we were both experiencing the same challenges as music artists. We knew that building a platform to bridge this representation gap was essential” they said.
Shana and Noé believe that the key to change comes from building an easily accessible directory rather than relying on promoters to seek out the talent. Our mission is to create a world where Asian identities are not just included but are central to the creative narrative, inspiring future generations and breaking down barriers.
Family of East is hosting an intimate launch party on 9th October to unveil the database and celebrate Asian talent. Join us in supporting the Asian diaspora in the music industry and grab your free tickets - everyone is welcome!
