MARICELLE's latest track ‘better off’ starts with the familiar rhythm of a windshield wiper, imagining a night drive in the rain through the MOOD multiverse.
Inspired by a night drive down Tokyo’s highway weaving between skyscrapers, ‘better off’ imagines a future noir world of cyberpunk and neons ready for your ears on the 14th of June as the second single off her upcoming EP 'the multiverse of you and me'.
MARICELLE is a Pop R&B singer-songwriter. “the multiverse of you and me” EP is about diving deep into yourself, thinking about life, and feeling close to your thoughts. It's like being alone and also feeling free to explore. Building her multiverse, she tests the fragile glass floor separating euphoria and false hope, second-guessing if things will work out.
Night drives are one of MARICELLE’s favorite things, as they tend to bring quieter thoughts to surface. Daydreaming while coasting on auto-pilot, ‘better off’ is about freely thinking of someone in the lonely hours, in the faint glimmer of hope that a good thing will return.
‘better off’ fades into the next track ‘pink moon’ with the sound of the rain clearing, paralleling the movement forwards and drive towards something new and full of hope, with clarity and chill vibes, the mood lightens as the perspective changes from fear of losing a good thing into gratitude and appreciation.
MARICELLE’s long awaited second EP “the multiverse of you and me” is slated to release across 2024, a passion project in collaboration with Yaffle, a Japanese producer based in Tokyo. “the multiverse of you and me” will join her successful 2017 debut EP ‘Pursuit’. “the multiverse of you and me” EP graduates into the experience of the actualization of the beginning stages of that dream manifesting and coming to terms with it, a coming-of-age of music identity and voice.
“the multiverse of you and me” EP features a landscape of urban sonic textures, blending Pop and contemporary R&B with electronic beats and synths. A poetically melancholic atmosphere manifests through her dreamy eyes, with hip hop elements juxtaposing futurism and retrolution, newness and nostalgia.
“the multiverse of you and me” EP is a hypothetical set of all universes of parallel dimensions, best and worse-case scenarios of possibilities. Sonder-filled, it is a future-noir manifestation fueled by the obstacles of the differences between people, points of view of love, kindness, morals and beliefs.
Worlds apart and worlds convening, we dream up and experience life and love, playing out the what ifs and the if onlys, imagining alternative outcomes as the world we may have once knew fades.
